GolfBC Group, in partnership with the National Golf Course Owners Association, announces all GolfBC Canadian courses certified as "Beginner Friendly"
25th August, 2005
Vancouver, B.C. – All of
GolfBC’s 9 golf courses in British Columbia have been
certified Beginner Friendly by the NGCOA. The GolfBC
Group, the second largest owners and operators of golf courses in
Canada, is pleased to follow-up the launch of their
“Kids Play Free at GolfBC” and
“Take-a-kid to the course week” programs by
further committing to grow the great game of
golf. “Beginner Friendly
certification” is the third of many initiatives that
will be launched by GolfBC over the coming months, under the new
banner “Learn to Play and Play More
Often”.
Participating courses are Nicklaus North, Furry Creek, Mayfair
Lakes, The Bear and The Quail at The Okanagan Golf Club,
Gallagher’s Canyon and The Pinnacle, Arbutus Ridge, and
Olympic View. In order to receive the certification,
courses across Canada and the United States completed applications,
which were used to determine if the course welcomes new golfers.
Courses were carefully evaluated on a number of criteria such as
availability of clinics, loaner clubs, special playing times for
beginners and other initiatives.
“To have all our golf courses receive Beginner
Friendly certification is a great honor and further strengthens our
commitment to growing the game of golf”, said GolfBC
Executive Vice-President Donald Lee. “We are
committed to ensuring GolfBC is recognized as a great place to
learn the game”, he added.
GolfBC, a Vancouver-based golf and resort management and
investment company, is defining a higher standard of quality and
consistency among premier golf destinations. Since 1989
GolfBC has been creating premium golf destinations and master
planned golf communities in British Columbia. GolfBC is
the owner/operator of eight championship golf courses in British
Columbia, including Nicklaus North (Whistler), Furry Creek (Lions
Bay), Gallagher’s Canyon (Kelowna), Olympic View
(Victoria), The Quail and The Bear (The Okanagan Golf Club in
Kelowna), Mayfair Lakes (Richmond), and Arbutus Ridge (Cobble Hill)
and one 9-hole facility, The Pinnacle (at Gallagher’s
Canyon). In the fall of 2003, GolfBC has acquired five
golf courses in Hawaii: the Gold, Emerald and Blue courses at
Wailea Golf Resort on Maui, and the Kiele and Mokihana courses at
Kauai Lagoons on Kauai. Additional information about
