Kelowna, B.C. – GolfBC Group announced a $75,000 donation to the BC Cancer Foundation, the tournament’s designated charity beneficiary, at the closing ceremonies of the 2022 GolfBC Championship held at Gallagher’s Canyon Golf & Country Club. This donation brings the total charitable contribution over the six years of the event to $750,000.

Giving back to the community through charitable initiatives has always been at the core of GolfBC Group and its charitable arm, Chan Family Foundation. When GolfBC took on the role of Title Sponsor in 2016, the charitable aspect of the event -- as well as the importance of directing the funds to help the Kelowna community -- was a main priority.

The GolfBC Championship has directly supported the BC Cancer Foundation’s project towards improving PET/CT technology and accessibility in the Kelowna area, bringing the most advanced cancer diagnostic tool closer to patients in need. More recently, funds will support the World Class Systemic Therapy Suite at the Kelowna BC Cancer Center on Royal Avenue. This new suite will dramatically increase capacity for chemotherapy treatments, provide the technological infrastructure to deliver real time data for medical staff, and for the first time ever, bring Phase 1 clinical trials to patients receiving Systemic Therapy treatments in Kelowna. Funds will also continue to support the Hereditary Cancer Program throughout the province, improving access to genetic testing on tumors to see if the patient’s family is at risk of cancer. Pivotal for overall disease prevention, this program also allows for faster diagnosis before the cancer is caught too late.

“GolfBC, Chan Family Foundation, and Gallagher’s Canyon Golf Club have continued their stellar support of the BC Cancer Foundation with a $75,000 gift this year. This incredible gift will enable the BC Cancer Agency to continue advancing the treatment and care of thousands of patients across BC, and locally in the Okanagan.” – BC Cancer Foundation

In addition, the event has also supported two other charities, the Red Cross Kelowna Flood Relief efforts in 2017, and the Central Okanagan Food Bank in 2019 and 2021.
