Arbutus Ridge Golf Club Awarded Host of 2005 National Junior Ladies Championship
15th March, 2005
Cobble Hill, British Columbia – Arbutus
Ridge Golf Club is the proud host of the 2005 CLGA
National Junior Championship.
96 of the Canada’s best Junior Ladies Golfers will
compete August 1st through 4th, 2005. The winner is awarded the
prestigious Brokenshire Trophy. Past Champions include LPGA
Superstars AJ Eathorne & Sandra Post.
Arbutus Ridge is located 45 minutes north of
Victoria. This golf course is the first Vancouver Island course to
host a National Ladies Championship since 1983 when Dawn Coe-Jones
won the National Crown at the Victoria Golf Club. Locals will get a
preview of some championship players during the Provincial Junior
Championship, also hosted by Arbutus Ridge.
Arbutus Ridge Golf Club is owned and operated by the GolfBC
Group. “GolfBC continues to commit to showcasing its
golf courses on a National stage” says former General
Manager Sarah Cruse. Other events hosted by GolfBC Golf Courses
include 1) National Men’s Amateur Championship at
Gallagher’s Canyon
(Kelowna) 2) CPGA Club Professional Championship at the Okanagan Golf Club (Kelowna) 3) Telus Skins Game at Nicklaus North (Whistler) 3) Wendy’s Skins Game at Wailea Resort (Hawaii) and 4) Canadian Tour Events at Mayfair Lakes (Vancouver).

“It’s an honour to host a National
Championship. This event will help promote Vancouver Island as a
golfing destination and Arbutus Ridge is proud to help the region
grow” says Scott Kolb, fomer Director of Golf at
Arbutus Ridge. Kolb believes the hospitality of the volunteer
committee of the two previous Provincial Junior Championships is
one reason Arbutus Ridge was awarded the event. “The
committee is led by a member of Arbutus Ridge, Diane Cook. They did
such an incredible job in 2002, as a result they asked us to run
the event again in 2003”, states Kolb. It is rare that
the Provincial Association asks a Club to host a Provincial event
in consecutive years.
